Tell Your Senators: Oppose UN's Targeting of Israel

Following the May 2021 conflict between Israel and Hamas, the UN created a one-sided and biased Commission of Inquiry to investigate Israel’s actions against Gaza. Unlike previous Commissions of Inquiry against Israel, this one is set to be permanent. Its substantial budget and leadership were approved earlier in 2022. The Commission is expected to deliver its report by June 2022. Jewish Federations of North America have been working with coalition partners to push back against the UN’s continued discrimination against Israel. Recently, Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rob Portman (R-OH) authored a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken to leverage American leadership and end the Commission of Inquiry. We need your help to gather the greatest number of Senators possible to join this letter.

Dear Senator, I am writing to ask that you support and sign on to the bipartisan letter Sens. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Rob Portman (R-OH) are circulating which urges Secretary of State Antony Blinken to lead a multinational effort to end the U.N.’s biased Commission of Inquiry (COI) on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The COI uses significant funding and personnel hours devoted to disproportionate demonization and delegitimization of Israel. In addition to redirecting these funds, the effort to end the COI led by Secretary Blinken would allow American diplomats to raise concerns at the upcoming sessions of the U.N. Human Rights Council. Sadly, the COI is unsurprising, disturbing, and dangerous. The United Nations continues to exhibit bias against Israel. In any one year, the General Assembly adopts numerous one-sided resolutions targeting Israel and only a miniscule number against any of the other member states for human rights violations. The Human Rights Council focuses an astonishing 20% of its resolutions on Israel and maintains Israel as a permanent agenda item, ensuring that Israel is singled out at every meeting. The COI would be a permanent body intended to constantly investigate and condemn solely the Jewish state. Senator Cardin and Portman’s bipartisan letter is essential in encouraging the Biden administration to demonstrate its commitment to one of our strongest democratic allies and eliminate the unjust COI against Israel.
