Urge Congress to Stand with Evan Gershkovich!

On March 29^th, while reporting in Russia, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was arrested by Russian security services and charged with espionage. The U.S. State Department has designated Evan, the son of a Jewish family that left the Soviet Union as refugees, as "wrongfully detained."

For our community, this is personal. Jewish Federations rallied nearly 500 members of our community this week in support of Evan and are urging our leaders in Washington to act quickly and use all the tools at their disposal to bring Evan home safely.

On May 10^th, a bipartisan group in the House of Representatives introduced a resolution calling for the release of Evan Gershkovich. Use the form below to write to your member of Congress and urge them to support this resolution and send a clear message that Evan must be released!

I am writing as a constituent and a member of the local Jewish community in support of Evan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was arrested in Russia on March 29th and has been designated by the State Department as wrongfully detained.

For our American Jewish community, this is personal. Evan’s parents fled the Soviet Union and the antisemitism Jews faced there in 1979, finding freedom and opportunity in the United States. Like many in our community, Evan was raised with a deep appreciation for the promise of the American dream. His story is one that all American Jews can relate to and has galvanized our community to act to ensure his safe return.

This week, Representatives McCaul, Meeks, Kean, and Keating introduced a resolution calling for Evan’s immediate release and a vote is expected in the House of Representatives as early as next week. I urge you to vote in favor of this important resolution to send a clear message to the Russian government that Evan must be released!

I hope you’ll support this resolution and join the bipartisan group of Representatives calling for Evan’s immediate release and safe return to his family in the United States.
