As the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed, people with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to COVID-related risks. In this environment, simply accessing medical services and obtaining food is a risk that many in the disability community can’t afford to take, forcing a greater reliance on home-based services and community partners for care. But many of these critical services that are provided at the state and local level rely on much-needed federal funding.
As we launch Jewish Disability Advocacy Month — bringing together thousands of disability activists from around North America — we must use our voices and urge Congress to approve an emergency COVID relief package that includes targeted increases for key programs that will ensure the quality of life and access to much-needed services for the disability community for the duration of the pandemic.
