The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) has been an important tool to help secure Jewish and other communities that face regular threats to their safety and well-being. This week, the FBI released its Hate Crime Statistics Report for 2020, which calculated that the number of anti-Jewish bias offenses reported this past year amounted to almost 60% of all anti-religious offenses reported, despite the Jewish community representing only two percent of the population. The record numbers of antisemitic and racially- and ethnically-motivated incidents in the FBI's latest data demand a strong federal response.
Jewish Federations know the importance of combating rising antisemitism and advocated earlier this year for the passage of the Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act, which equips law enforcement with the tools they need to effectively track and monitor these attacks. Now, we are calling on Congress to double funding for FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) to allow Jewish institutions and others targeted by hate, violence, and threats to protect their communities.
