In the most intensive outbreak of hostilities in over a year, nearly 1,000 rockets have been indiscriminately fired into Israel since Friday by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a U.S.-designated terror organization, and Israelis have spent days in bomb shelters protecting innocent children, women, and men. At the same time, these terrorists are using innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as human shields. I am now writing to urge you to publicly support our democratic ally, Israel as she works to defend herself and protect innocent people from terror.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad is an Iranian-backed terror group committed to the wholescale destruction of Israel. Last week, after days of escalating threats from terrorist leaders and intelligence that this group was planning major attacks against Israel, the IDF arrested Bassem Said, the Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank and Friday, the IDF launched Operation Breaking Dawn, a pre-emptive attack to keep Israelis safe. Since Friday, nearly 1,000 rockets have been fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip. Over 100 rockets fell short and landed in the Gaza Strip itself, causing damage and casualties to Palestinian communities.

I am deeply concerned about these acts of aggression against Israel and the casualties and trauma experienced by innocent people. As your constituent, I thank you for your solidarity during this critical time and, I urge you to publicly support Israel’s right to self-defense itself against terrorism.
